Wedding Photojournalism by Simon Atkins
frequently asked questions

What is the style of photography and your approach to our wedding?

Simon's style is 100 percent  photojournalism, (other than 6 or 7 formal groups), Simon's aim is to stay in the background and capture the true emotions of your wedding without directing what happens in front of the camera. Most of the time you won't even notice Simon taking the photographs.

What is wedding photojournalism or reportage wedding photography?  In Simon's opinion wedding photojournalism means capturing the scene as it appears without any prompting from the photographer. Simon simply records the real emotions and events of your day as they happen and tells the story of your wedding day in the photographs.

Do you have insurance?  Simon has public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance.

Do you bring an assistant?  No, Simon prefers to work alone as he finds it easier to blend into the background.  Because of Simon's style of photography he does not require an assistant.

What happens if you are ill?  Simon has never missed a wedding through illness, however he does have extensive contacts with other photographers. In the event of Simon being seriously ill he would try to find an alternative photographer with a similar style to photograph the wedding on his behalf. Simon also has professional indemnity insurance to cover such events.

Will you visit the venue before the wedding day?  Simon does not usually visit the venue before the wedding. Some traditional photographers like to do this to select backgrounds for their photographs. Because of Simon's style (photographing the emotions of the day) he does not need to look around before.  Lighting and backgrounds also change depending on the time of year and even the time of day, therefore what looks nice several weeks before the wedding might look different on the day.

Do we need to provide you with dinner?  Simon does not expect you to provide food, although it is very much appreciated with longer coverage.

How many photographs will you take?  Simon takes an unlimited amount of photographs during the day. He will take more than enough to tell the story of your wedding day giving you plenty of choice for the album. A typical 8 hour day might produce as many as 400 photographs which you can will receive on a DVD slide show for viewing on your Television.

How much do reprints cost?  From £6.50 for a 5"x7" print.  If you would prefer to make your own reprints you may purchase a set of  CD for £400. You can then make as many prints as you like!

How do we book your services?   Most couples prefer to come and have a chat and look through a few albums before booking. But Simon understands this is not always possible, for example if you live a long way from Northamptonshire or even abroad.  If you would like to make a booking please telephone or email with your address and we can post you the booking contract which we require filling in and returning with the retainer of £350 (deducted from the balance). Full payment is required no later than 14 days prior to the wedding.

Can I have some formal photographs taken?  Yes. Simon is happy to take a few group photographs. These are taken quickly and without fuss. I suggest you limit the formal photographs to a maximum of 6 or 7 groups. This will ensure the groups will take no more than 15 minutes. If you are looking for lots of group photographs then wedding photojournalism may not be for you.
