The story behind the image – Chinook Helicopter.
This image was taken in Germany during a three day trip to Celle to photograph the British Army in training. On the second day I was flown around in the Chinook for a few hours which was a fantastic experience. The rear loading ramp was left open for much of the flying time allowing me to take several photographs inside the Chinook with some aerial scenery in the background. My favourite photograph was the one below, taken at one of the points we landed. I had a chance to get outside and capture this image of soldiers being picked up, it was getting dark by this point and the photograph was shot on film, a slower shutter speed resulted in some blur of the helicopter rotor blades which really made the image work.
