St Mawes Castle wedding photography, there can be few locations as spectacular as St Mawes Castke in Cornwall, perched high on the cliffs. The castle and it’s sister, Pendennis, were built as defensive fortresses to defend the Fal estuary and Carrick Roads. St Mawes Castle was built between 1540 and 1545 as part of the wider defences for Henry VIII. The castle is now owned and managed by English Heritage.
I have photographed a number of weddings at St Mawes Castle, one had the entire wedding within the castle, another had a marquee located on the grass just below the castle, this wedding had the ceremony at St Mawes Castle and the reception at nearby Hotel Tresanton.
The drive down to Cornwall was rather wet and the forecast looked gloomy, however the clouds parted and the sun came through for Helen and Darren’s wedding at St Mawes Castle. My coverage started at Hotel Tresanton, where both Helen and Darren got ready. I then run up the hill to St Mawes Castle to photograph guests arriving, then back down the hill to photograph Helen as she walked to the castle for the ceremony. I’d love to take a pedometer to weddings to see how many miles I end up walking.
St Mawes Castle looked very atmospheric for the wedding ceremony, it is rather dark in the castle but this really adds to the atmosphere. After the ceremony the guests followed Helen and Darren back down the hill for the drinks reception on a terrace overlooking the sea. The couple then took some time together on the beach before heading to Hotel Tresanton for the reception.
